Her birth information
was taken from family history and information provided by St Matthew's German Church in
Hoboken.

Saint Matthew's Trinity Lutheran Parish, 57 Eight Street, Hoboken 07030 (201) 659-4499,
Meta Helene Petermann was born in Hoboken on January 18, 1886 to Bernhard
Petermann and Sophie Steuer and was baptized on March 15, 1901. She was 15 years old in
1901.
Confirmation
Meta was confirmed on Palm Sunday 1901 at St Matthaus German
Lutheran Church in Hoboken, New Jersey (St. Matthew).
Note: - In a letter dated September 15, 1999 from Saint Matthew's church in Hoboken
in response to my inquiry regarding Meta's baptism, they listed March 15, 1901 as
the date of Meta's baptism.
They also indicated that
their records are kept by date and not by name. Since Meta's confirmation and baptism
apparently occurred
when
she was 15 years old, St Matthew's is not a reliable source of birth information
for the Petermanns.
According to information obtained at the Hoboken Public Library, this church was
founded in 1858 by the Rev. V. M. Wossifle, a native of Prussia. According to
information obtained at the Jersey City Library, the founder was Rev. C. M. Wossidlo.
The present church was built on the corner of Hudson and 8th Streets in 1877.
The Rev. Eirich was pastor until 1890. Other pastors who served in this church were; the Rev.
Alexander Richter and the Rev. Herman Bruckner.

Marriage
Meta H. Petermann of Hoboken, New Jersey married Percy Land of Hauppague, New
York on January 18, 1908 in Smithtown, New York. Witnesses were Clarence L. Land
and Anna Peterman. The minister was E. S. Wright of Central Islip.
Percy was listed as a 22-year-old carpenter, born in Canada, father, Law Land,
mother, Elizabeth Sykes, both born in England. Meta was listed as a 21-year-old,
dressmaker, born in Hoboken, New Jersey, father, Bernard Peterman, mother, Sophie
Steurer, both born in Germany.
