The Sheards first appear in the Batley parish records in the 1580s and in the Birstall parish records in the 1640s. The records for the Sheards in Batley parish stop in 1670. There are no records for the Sheards in Batley until 1750, eighty years later. Two of the Sheards who show up in the later records in Batley were brothers, George and Michael, the son of Jonas Sheard born in Birstall Parish. See Jonas Sheard now or at the bottom of the page.

Sheards in the Gildersome Baptist Church Records

The last three known children of Jonas Sheard and Dinah Kirk were baptized in the Baptist Chapel in Gildersome in Batley Parish between 1750 and 1756. The death of Dinah Kirk Sheard was also recorded in the Baptist Chapel in 1763.

There were other Sheards who were members of the congregation.
