Birth

Allen Bernard Land was born on January 8, 1913 in Central Islip, Long Island, the son of Percy Arnold Land, age 27, contractor and builder, born in Canada and Meta Peterman, age 26, born in New Jersey, he was the third of three living children. The attending physician was William S. McDonnald of Brentwood, Long Island.


Marriage, 1939

Marriage: Allen married Mary Dickerson (AKA Dickie) on April 12, 1939 in St James cert # 7827.

"Smithtown - Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dickerson of Blydenburgh Avenue of the marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Allan Land, son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy A. Land of North Country Road, April 12, at St. James, N. Y. The young couple have returned from their wedding trip and have taken up residence in this village. Both are graduates of the Smithtown Branch High School. Mr Land has for a number of years been Scoutmaster and leader of the local Scout troop."

Children

Children: Allen and Dickie adopted two children and subsequently had a natural born son:

  1. David Dickerson Land, born July 13, 1947, adopted

  2. Linda Jane, born October 11 1949, adopted.

    Marriage: Linda Land married James O'Dea July 21, 1967 (divorced).

    Children:

    1. Michael Patrick born Dec 25, 1967
    2. Christina Marella born June 30, 1770

  3. James (Jimmie) born October 13, 1953, natural born.

    Marriage Marion Katherine Blair, date and place unknown.

    Children:

    1. Clayton Allen Land, July 27, 1990, 9 pounds 15 oz.


Military Service of Allen Land

Allen was inducted into the US Army on February 25, 1942 along with 72 other men from Suffolk County; including his cousin Gordon Wiedenkeller.

According to Helen Land, Allen was a honor guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington during his military service.


Death

Allen died August 17, 1975.

Allen Land, 62, Dies — Native of Smithtown

Allen Land, 62, a native of this Township and long resident of Smithtown, died suddenly on Saturday, August 15 at this home in Chevy Chase, Md.

Word of his death came as a shock to his relatives and friends here for he had just visited for two week and seemed to be in perfect health.

Mr. Land the son of the late Percy Land and Meta Land, was born in Hauppauge; where the family lived until 1920, when they moved to North Country Road, Smithtown. He was educated in the Smithtown schools and lived here until he went into the military service in World War II.

After the war, he settled in the Washington, D. C. area where he was associated with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and made his home in Chevy Chase.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dickenson Land, and two children Linda O'Dea and James Land. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Land, of St James, and two brothers, Arnold Land of Smithtown and Edgar Land of Madison, New Jersey; and by two grandchildren, Michael and Christiana O'Dea.

Burial was yesterday, August 20, at Arlington National Cemetery where his son is buried.
