This is the ship that Joseph and Fanny Walsh immigrated on to Philadelphia in 1894.

The following information is from Passenger Ships of the World, Past and Present by Eugene W. Smith and was provided to me by the Steamship Historical Society of America.

It was built in 1882 by Harland & Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, Ireland, for the British-Shipowners Co. and sailed for the American Line.

Tonnage: 3,863. Dimensions: 420' x 42'. single-screw, 12 knots. Compound engine. Four masts and one funnel. Renamed: Les Alpes (1895)

This is the ship that Mathias, Penelope, James and Bridget Langan immigrated on to New York City in April 1892.

The following information is from Passenger Ships of the World, Past and Present by Eugene W. Smith and was provided to me by the Steamship Historical Society of America.

It was built in 1874 by Harland & Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, Ireland. It sailed for the White Star Line.

Tonnage: 5,008. Dimensions: 455' x 45'. single-screw, 16 knots. Compound engine. Four masts and two funnels, iron hull, launched July 15, 1875, maiden voyage: Liverpool-New York, May 20, 1875, won the trans-Atlantic "Blue Ribbon" in February 1876. Renamed:Ottawa (1905), Gul Djemal (1910) Turkish. Torpedoed by a British submarine in the Sea of Marmare, May 3, 1915, but was later saved. Made several crossings to New York during 1920-21 for Turkish owners. Name change to Gulcmal about 1928. Scrapped in 1950.
