This tintype of my great-grandmother, Margaret Nolan Slattery, grandfather Michael Slattery, and great-grandfather James (Big Jim) Slattery was taken in 1897 outside Carrig church, North Tipperary, near the family home in Gurteenakilla a few miles from Nenagh. The great-grandparents sent the photo to their daughter Kate Slattery who was working as a cook in Rochester, New York, USA, because she had left home before Michael, her youngest brother, was born and she had never seen him.
