Laws in Birstall Parish
There are only a handful of records for Law in early Bristall Parish that are not
directly connected to
James Law (born circa 1644), his wife Alice Rouse and their descendants.
There are three records for the name between 1558 and 1664 (over a hundred years): -
John Law married Margaret Challyner July 30, 1611 in Birstall Parish.
- Wf of John Lawe of A (Adwalton) buried Jan 17, 1615.
- John Law from B (Birstall) buried 2 Dec 1623
John and Margaret could not have been the parents of James Law. It is possible however, that they were his grandparents.
The only later records are connected to Abraham Law born circa 1672 and Grace Law born circa 1674. It
is possible that Abraham and/or Grace were the children of James and Alice Law as there is a seven year break
in the baptismal records that coincides with the
estimated dates of birth of Abraham and Grace.

Death: Sarah Law of Scholes, widow, was buried September 16, 1730.
Given that he was the only other Law in the parish and that he named is second son, James,
it is possible that Abraham was a son of James and Alice Law, born in the period of the break
in the births of their children as recorded in the parish records.
