Dorethe Wenzel was born in 1818 in Lehe , Germany, the daughter of Johann Christine Wenzel and Anna Margarethe Marwede. Dorethe married Heinrich Christopher Blanck in 1843. They had four children born in Lehe, Germany.

For a list of the records available for Lehe, and for more details on the marriage and children of Dorethe Wenzel, see Hienrich Christopher Blanck

The Birth of Johann Christian Wenzel, The Father of Dorethe Wenzel

Johann Christian Wenzel was born in Karlshofen, Germany, no later than 1797, the son of Michael Wenzel. This information is taken from the records of his marriages in Lehe.

There are no records from Karlhaven in the Family History Center library.

The Marriage of Johann Christian Wenzel to Anna Marwede

Johann Christian Wentzel of Karlshofen, shoemaker, son of Michael Wentzel of Karlshofen, married Anna Sophia Marwede daughter of Christian Marwede, shoemaker, in Lehe on January 13, 1817.

Anna Sophia was 32 years old. This is old for a first marriage. I could not find a record of another marriage in Lehe for Anna Sophia Marwede.

The children of Johann Christian Wenzel and Anna Marwede

Johann Christian Wenzel and Anna Margarethe Bina Sophia Marwede had the following children:

  1. Dorothe Christine Wenzel, daughter of Christian Wenzel and Anna Margarethe Marwede, was born February 13, 1818, and baptized February 22, 1818 in Lehe. The writing on the baptismal record is very hard to read, I can't read any of the names of the sponsors.

Dorothe Christine Wenzel, was confirmed in Lehe in 1834.

She married Heinrich Christopher Blanck in 1843. See Hienrich Christopher Blanck

  2. Anna Sophia Magdelena Wenzel, the daughter of Johann Christian Wenzel and Anna Margarethe Bina Sophia Marwede was baptized in Lehe on October 13, 1820. The baptismal record is very hard to read.

There is a slight conflict with the confirmation records of Anna Sophia Wenzel. There are two records; one for 1837 and one for 1839, which say exactly the same thing, except one lists "Anna Sophia Magdelena Wenzel", and the other lists "Anna Magdalena Wenzel". They are both listed under "confirmirte". In both cases the age is given as 16 years and some months. Both confirmations occur in the Reform Church of Lehe.

  3. Wilhelmina Gustine, the daughter of Christian Wenzel and Anna Sophia Marwede was born in Lehe on December 30, 1826 and baptized on January 28, 1827.

Wilhelmina, daughter of Christina Wenzel and Margarethe, nee Muller, born December 24, 1826, was confirmed in the Reform Church of Lehe on April 4 1844. Margarethe Muller was actually her stepmother. I don't know why the date of birth is different.

Death of Anna Marwede Wenzel

Anna Margarithe Sophia Bina Marwede Wenzel, the wife of Christian Wenzel, died in Lehe on September 9 and was buried on September 12, 1829 , age 43 years, 6 months.

Marriage of Johann Christian Wenzel and Margarethe Muller

Christian Wenzel, widow and shoemaker, born in Carlshaven, son of Michael Wenzel, married Margarethe Muller, daughter of Johann Dietrich Muller, in Lehe on November 19, 1830.

Christian Wenzel and Margarethe Muller had the following children:

  1. Elise Rebecca , daughter of Christian Wenzel and Margarethe, nee Muller, was born on June 2 and baptized on July 2, 1831 in the Lutheran Church of Lehe. Elise Rebecka Wenzel, daughter of Christian Wenzel , born June 2, 1831 was confirmed on April 20, 1848 in the Reform Church of Lehe.
  2. Johann Christian Wenzel, son of Johann Christian Wenzel and Margarethe, nee Muller, was born on November 22 and baptized on November 27, 1835 in the Lutheran Church of Lehe.

He was confirmed on April 8 1852 in the Reform Church of Lehe.

Margarethe Wenzel, wife of Christian Wenzel, daughter of "Hienrich" Muller, died in Lehe on April 17 and was buried on April 20, 1841, age 42 years and 10 months.

Karlshofen/Karlshaven

There is a village of Karlshöfen several miles south east of Bremerhaven. There was no church in Karlshöfen. LDS records may be in Gnarrenberg or another village in the area.

There is another town called, Bad Karlshafen, at the junction of the Diemel with the south of Hanover near Kassel.

It seems more likely that the Wenzels were from the town nearer Bremerhaven.
